Perfecting Your Practice with Body Mapping Principles

-----

Rhonda Cassano is a flutist with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and an active recitalist and chamber musician whose teachers include Geoffrey Gilbert, William Bennett, Charles DeLaney, and Jean-Pierre Rampal.

She is licensed by the Association of Body Mapping Educators, teaching body mapping workshops, individual lessons, and a course in Body Mapping for musicians.

The Wildacres “Perfecting Your Practice with Body Mapping” class will explore the whole body/mind approach to flute practice and performance.

I will share with you the knowledge I’ve gained from 45 years as a professional orchestra musician and teacher and my experience as a body mapping educator.

Specifically, I will combine techniques learned from the greatest flutists and teachers in modern history to solve the common challenges of flute playing, enhanced by an understanding of how to use your body, giving you tools that will allow you to identify and solve challenges that arise in your practice.

You will discover that the freedom of movement found in the body leads to our ultimate goal: freedom of expression through sound. Every movement, or combination of movements creates a sound. When physical limitations are lifted and we sense in our bodies the relationship of movement to sound, it opens up a new world of creative possibilities.

Course topics include:

Participants will be asked to bring music of their choice that illustrates the following topics: sound, flexibility, breathing, articulation, and finger technique.

Along with mapping our bodies to make the above easier, each participant will play in a daily “practicing masterclass” so that I will have an opportunity to work with each individual on topics that benefit us all.
