Amy Blumenthal organizes the Gala Concert on our final evening, which is Friday, June 30th. The master teachers will give solo performances and everyone participates in the final flute choir ensemble. The public is invited to this concert and following reception.
Amy received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Colorado and her Masters from the University of Michigan, both in flute performance. She was an early pioneer in the development of flute choirs, establishing ALRY Publications as a way to share her many arrangements for this genre with the numerous emerging flute ensembles. ALRY now publishes and promotes the woodwind and chamber music of 280 composers and arrangers.
She has been actively involved with flute ensembles, having coordinated chamber music for master-classes with William Bennett, Trevor Wye, and a variety of others. Ms. Rice Blumenthal has presented clinics internationally, has conducted the National High School Flute Choir, the NFA Professional Flute Choir, and numerous reading sessions for the NFA.
Still an active performing flutist in the Charlotte, NC area, Amy has become increasing interested in arts advocacy, serving on the Board of Directors of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Wildacres Retreat, and the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. She is currently Chairman of the Board of Visitors for the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
