Mary Miller

Mary MillerMary Miller has been a faculty member in the Department of Music at the University of Nevada, Reno for 24 years. She currently teaches applied flute, music appreciation, flute ensemble, and woodwind methods. She is also the Principal Flutist with the Reno Philharmonic, the Reno Chamber Orchestra, and the Nevada Opera Orchestra. Mary has been a featured soloist with the Reno Philharmonic, the Reno Chamber Orchestra, the Ruby Mountain Symphony, the Carson City Symphony, the UNR Symphony Orchestra, and the National Flute Association. She is the director of the annual Flute Day, held on the University of Nevada, Reno campus every spring.

Mary received her bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1986 and a master’s degree in music performance from UNR in 1997. Her primary teachers were Catherine P. Smith and Alan Cox, with additional studies from Tim Day, Mary Karen Clardy, Lloyd Gowan, Bettine Clemen, and Susanna Watling.

In addition to her work as a player and teacher, Mary has been the Personnel Manager for the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra for 16 years. This is Mary's first time at Wildacres Flute Retreat.
